Courage and devotion are difficult qualities to SHOW in a realistic character, but the author Sean Storin does an amazing job creating these in Kate Bruno. Storin easily could have become pedantic or repetitive while crafting A Frame For Flowers, however he keeps the story rich with new characters, circumstances, and twists, for the woman battling cancer while caring for her son. Her ultimate choice attests the courage we all should hope to have when faced with life's difficult choices. I thoroughly enjoyed this read from "cover to cover". Each character feels like someone you might know and love (or abhor). Each revelation was entertaining, unexpected and enjoyable to read. Finally, I especially favor the depth of the son, Anthony. Storin's treatment of Anthony's relationship with his mother weaves such a beautiful tapestry to this story that I found myself wishing I had a moment's chance to deal with Frank for them--a good sign of a great read!

I really enjoyed this book. I wasn't sure what to expect being a first time novel (someone had recommended it ) but I couldn't put this book down. The characters were so real, I felt as if I could relate to them all personally. I was emotional throughout the story and completely surprised by the ending! I highly recommend this read!!
BalasHapusThis book will get your attention in the first few chapters - and the chapters are short! I easily became attached to several of the main characters and found myself feeling such a range of emotions throughout the story. The story is extremely engaging and is a fast read. It reminded me of a James Patterson type of novel. Even if you are not from the Boston area it is easy to picture all of the places described in the book. I highly recommend this book and look forward to reading any future books that are written by Sean.
BalasHapusI read this book far into the night and didn't get to do much the next day until I finished it. The surprise ending was worth it. So different from the typical. Being a retired Social Worker, I thought the author's insights into the problem of domestic violence were right on target. His abuser was depicted perfectly, showing the indifference of such a human being. I hope Mr. Storin is writing another book because I am waiting to read it.

BalasHapusThis book is outstanding for many reasons. You immediately become immersed in the characters lives. You grow to love Kate and her son and your heart aches for the them as the story unfolds. You find this book harder and harder to put down. As Kate's predicament becomes more and more dire, you hope and pray that she can find a way out for her and her son. The ending is not only clever and gratifying, but almost every detail in the story comes back to have relevance. You realize that Kate is not only courageous, she is brilliant! This is a great story and I look forward to Sean Storin's next creative endeavor!
BalasHapusOne of those books that you bargain with yourself; "Just one more Chapter before I..." I got it in the mail Friday night and I finished it on Monday morning. This story is very believable, relatable, and expertly weaves poetic images and emotions together. It took me back to my Boston neighborhoods, the language and characters are truly authentic. A Frame for Flowers describes a fullness of life, the beauty, the extremes, but also the challenges we all have. Start at page one and go to the very end, page by page, you will not be disappointed!

The author really breathes life into his descriptions of Boston's warm pubs and snow-covered streets. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a poignant, well-crafted tale.
BalasHapusSo overwhelmingly engrossing you wont realize that you've just spent the better part of the last 6 hours reading! The details of the settings were precise and vivid, the characters so real that you will recognize a part of yourself in them and the plot so unexpected you will genuinely be surprised by the twists and turns, unlike most fiction in the market today. Do yourself a favor, clear a weekend and pick up this book!
